Behind the Scenes

Behind the Scenes

Some could say, you are what you eat?  Well, then, the Cuisine & Company staff is a thirty year smorgasbord of delectable cuisine!

Although we confidently relinquish the wedding cake to the other fabulous bakery vendors at Marina Shores, our baking staff still enjoys preparing homemade fresh and yummy baked goods.  Trish, Melody, and Philesha, our Cuisine & Company pastry chefs, work together and fill our kitchen with sweet aromas of natural ingredients, like honey, yeast, sweet sugars and salt.   We are very proud of Philesha Howard, who recently competed in New York on the Food Network show, “Sweet Genius”, hosted by Ron Ben-Israel, a master pastry instructor!  And!  She won the grand prize of $10,000.00!  Such interesting tests of her creativity utilized, preparing such unique delights, like a caramel nest with vegetable spread cheese cake bites and a star fruit sauce. We are not sure if we will (ever) have this type of baked good request at Marina Shores, but it does go to show you, we certainly are a smorgasbord of talent and delights!  Congratulations, Philesha!

It Takes a Village

It has been said, “It takes a village”, meaning, in order for something to work well, it requires a team to be involved and participate.  Our “village” here at The Yacht Club at Marina Shores,  with its staff, its talented and creative vendors, delicious food, its lovely views and room decor of the Shoreline, Yacht Club and soon to be Coastal Rooms, all combined create a night to remember!   One may also say, it starts with a vision.  This month, Preston Bailey, renowned master event designer, met with our senior catering staff at the Uniquely Yours Bridal VIP event at the Oceanfront Hilton.  He shared with our catering staff breathtaking slides of his creations, only to reiterate how it required his ‘team’ to put it all together.  Without them, he said, it would never be as he imagined or designed.   At The Yacht Club, it is about YOUR vision for YOUR event.  With your choices and our contributing talents, we will make it happen!

Something to keep in mind when you are selecting a venue, at The Yacht Club, every inch of design and planning is coordinated with each vendor.  Once you have selected menu items from your Cuisine & Company wedding package, whether it is seated plated or stations, every detail is considered, from the initial preparation of your food, which tastes delicious, to the food setting where it is displayed with creativity and loveliness.  We believe in quality, still, after 30 years of catering!

And a big ‘hello’ from all of us here at Cuisine & Company to the wonderful brides and their families we met and spoke to at the Uniquely Yours Bridal Show at the Norfolk Scope Exhibition!  We hope we were able to answer your questions and we look forward to working with you in the near future.  Congratulations!

Bridal Open House Success!

What a fantastic turnout!  We had over 200 brides attend our 5th Annual Autumn Bridal Open House this past Sunday, October 23rd, 2011.  Each guest was welcomed by our friendly staff, served an array of delectable foods by Cuisine&Company and greeted by each of our reputable vendors.  Many brides left with arms full; loaded down with fantastic door prizes! We would like to thank all our vendors for putting together a beautiful show with lots of options for our future brides.  There’s nothing better than having the opportunity to meet each professional face-to-face and ask questions about their services.

outdoor wedding reception ideas in virginia beachThe number of alcohol or non alcohol drinks will vary.  We suggest you calculate the length of the party, the number of guests and the strength of the beverages.

For cocktails: You may figure that your guests will consume (2) drinks per person per hour for the first (2) hours and (1) drink per person per hour after that.  Talk to your caterer to find out more about our bar setups: mixers, fruit, ice, coolers, bar equipment, etc.

For Beer: We suggest (5) six-packs of beer for ten people, based on a twelve-ounce serving unless your guests primarily drink beer.

For Wine: We suggest roughly half a bottle of wine per guest. The true number of bottles required will also depend upon your guests and how much they consume.  You should get roughly (5) servings per bottle. Depending on the season, the temperature is also a factor in selecting which wine to choose for your guests.

Soft Drinks & Water: If your guests will be dancing the night away, make sure you provide plenty of non alcoholic drinks to quench their thirst. There are about (10) eight-ounce glasses of soda in a (2)-liter bottle.

Specialty non alcoholic drinks! At Cuisine & Company, a popular refreshment in the summer is a delightful and refreshing ‘fresh water’ drink with fresh fruit, known as Agua Frescas!  From a vast selection of fruit choices, this delightful drink is served in lovely glass jars.  They not only satisfy your thirst, but compliment the ambiance with bright colors of fruit and display!
